The witch : Part1. The Subversion

Not long ago, there was a summary of the drama that I happened to see through the connection of the YouTube algorithm. It's a drama called "That Year We", and the male and female protagonists in this drama are my favorite actors, Kim Da-mi and Choi Woo-sik. I liked the acting of the two actors, which was not ordinary and not exaggerated. I'd like to review The Witch, a movie that I enjoyed watching among the two actors.

 

A dark night, in a secluded place, a bloody girl is being chased by people. The girl, who ran awayj from the people without a break, collapses in front of a ranch in the countryside, and the owner of the ranch takes the girl home to treat her, and takes her as her own child to raise her. Meanwhile, those who missed this girl think that this girl will eventually have a runaway brain and will soon die, leaving her alone.

Over time, the girl who became a high school student has the name Koo Ja-yoon, and she helps her sick father work as a rancher and takes care of her mother who is getting worse with Alzheimer's disease. However, my father is sick, so he can't do the ranch work properly, and the price of cows has plummeted, and he is having a hard time because he can't earn the price of food properly. And I was suffering from a huge headache once in a while. Just like people who had previously missed chasing this girl expected her brain to run out and die soon. Anyway, Nature, who needed money, participates in an audition program called Star Birth at the recommendation of a friend, where she shows excellent singing skills and magical superpowers and gets attention at once.

Her figure is broadcast across the country, and those who chased her as a child also watch the broadcast and start chasing her again.

One night, a group of people chasing her come to her, barrenly arrest her friend and her parents, blackmail her, and she unleash her ability to hide, subdue the whole party at once. And then another group breaks into her house, and they also ask her to accompany her as hostages to her parents. But she keeps asking herself why she doesn't remember anything, and why she's bullying and threatening her. People who didn't believe she didn't remember come to believe her when she said she didn't keep remembering, and asked her to accompany her once again, saying that they would make her remember. Of course, with the threat to kill everyone around you. A friend stops her from trying to follow him, but in the end, he asks a friend to follow her parents and follows him, and the actor Choi Woo-sook, who seems to have a story with her, explains to the movie viewers why she went to the couple on the day she was chased.

Then, with the group, she arrives at an abandoned building in a secluded place and meets the being Dr. Bag, who made her upright, like a laboratory set up there. To her who still doesn't remember anything, Dr. Bag gives her an unknown shot, and reminds her of what happened when she was young.

In fact, she was an experiment in which genes were manipulated to dramatically increase human capacity. Her and other subjects have demonstrated tremendous capabilities through multiple tests, and among them, she has demonstrated superior capabilities over others. But under the direction of some superiors who were rather afraid of her abilities, the experiment was canceled and instructions were given to kill all the children used as the experiment. When the children were dying like that, she ran away with her outstanding abilities.

Knowing all the facts, she once again comes with a huge headache, bleeding and suffering terribly. Then Dr. Baek gives her an injection, telling her that she has a shot she developed, and that if she gets this shot every month, she can be freed from her pain and fear of death, and she can unleash her abilities to the fullest. So freed from the pain, she tries to escape from there, and orders Dr. Bag to kill her by injecting nerve gas into the lab.

But since she had already been given an injection and her brain was in perfect condition, she unleashed her immense abilities to escape there and catch Dr. Bag and direct her to where the remaining shots are.

Reversal: Our Ja-yoon has all the plans.

Actually, she had all the memories. She was living by deliberately downgrading her abilities to slow down her brain problems, and she tried hard to solve her brain problems, but she couldn't solve them on her own, and in the end, she thought Dr. Bag would have a solution, and she had been looking for Doctor Bag for a long time. But when it wasn't easy to find Dr. Bag, she ended up making herself appear and making them come to her.

In the end, everything went according to her plan, and as she dragged Dr. Bag to find the rest of the injections, she was threatened by Choi Woo-sik and another group, but she had the ability that no one could follow, and eventually overpowered everyone there, and took the shot that could heal her and got out of there. Then she says goodbye to her father, who turned her back, and takes a quick look at her friend's face in the hospital, even from a distance, and then leaves for a new job again.

Review of the movie

When I first saw this movie, I felt very fresh. It felt like a type of superpower movie that didn't exist in Korea, an anti-hero movie in Hollywood, and the appearance of actor Kim Da-mi and actor Choi Woo-sik, who were little known at the time, also felt fresh. In particular, actor Kim Da-mi shows a cute appearance in the front, unlike the terrifying action in the second half, which shows different charms. Somewhere, I saw an article that actor Kim Da-mi was cast because she had both pure and harsh appearances, and if you watch this movie, you will know what it means. And I've reviewed them all, but the content with a twist, and the action scenes of people with superpowers are also worth watching, so I think it's a recommended movie.
